Why AI Graphics Are Not a Suitable Basis for Production
Artificial intelligence (AI) has recently become a common part of many processes – including creative ones. Many people try to use tools like Midjourney, DALL·E, or Canva with AI features to design sportswear, accessories, or team merchandise. At first glance, this may seem like a great way to save time and money. However, in reality, this approach brings a number of complications.
AI graphics are not technically ready for print
Images generated by AI are usually raster-based (e.g., in JPG or PNG format) and lack sufficient resolution and vector structure. This means they cannot be easily resized, recolored, or prepared for printing on curved surfaces like sleeves or team caps. The result may be blurry or distorted prints.
Lack of precision and consistency
AI creates designs based on general styles and prompts. However, it lacks a sense of proportion for sports elements, proper logo placement, number positioning, or brand-consistent color schemes. The outcome is often visual chaos that looks unprofessional.
Licensing and copyright risks
Although AI generates graphics automatically, it is often unclear what sources it draws from. Sometimes elements are used that may be copyrighted, which can lead to legal issues when the design is used in public or commercial settings (e.g., in races, media, or advertising).
Unnecessary extra work – and higher costs
Designs created by AI often need to be completely redrawn or adapted by a graphic designer to be usable for production. Instead of saving money, clients frequently end up paying more – either for corrections or for converting the design into usable formats.
So what is the right approach?
Work with a professional graphic designer. If you don’t have one, we’ll gladly prepare the design for you according to your ideas.
Provide logos in vector formats (e.g., .AI, .EPS, .SVG, .PDF). If you have a vision for colors or style, you can also share a mood board or a sketch.
Ask for advice. With over 30 years of experience in jersey and teamwear production, we know what works – technically and visually.
AI is an excellent tool in many areas, but it is not yet suitable for creating print-ready designs for sportswear and accessories. If you want your team gear to look professional, high-quality, and truly represent your brand, it’s best to rely on experienced designers and proven production methods.
